"We Are Gonna Need A Bigger Boat" ..........

......is the classic line from the movie Jaws. It was uttered by the town's sheriff when he spotted the size of the shark.

Well, over at Althouse today, they were yakking about the FDA banning some cancer drug and of course, the comments evolved into death panels, etc. Well I was amazed at the number of fed agencies we have and at how much power they have.

Since we must tear down all these govt agencies, I think we will need even more pitchforks and torches.

Yahoo.......

.......should have been named Yaho! Everytime I mis-type my yahoo logon ID as ......myusername@yaho.com, that idea comes to mind. Yaho would have been a much better domain name than Yahoo! Hell they could have said it was named after the women Tiger Woods was screwing. Heh.

My College Picks.......

..........and no Doofus I am not referring to my choice for the best schools of higher education. I am referring to my college football picks that will win me some serious moolah this weekend. Don't blame me if you don't have the balls to make a bet and my picks win. Here are my picks:
  • Take West Virginia with the points vs. Rutgers.
  • Take Fresno State with the points vs. Illinois.
  • Take Florida and give points vs. Alabama. Tim Whathisname is a great QB and the Gators will win by 14 points.
  • Upset of the week: Take Pittsburgh with the ponts vs. Cincinnati.

And don't blame me if you make a bet and lose! That is why it is called gambling. Heh.

UPDATE 12/6/09: I would have won 3 out of 4 of these picks. If I was in Vegas, my bets would have been $500 each on WVU and Pittsburgh, $200 each on Fresno St and Florida. Florida was my only loser and they lost big so there was no unnecessary suspense. Bottom line is I would have won almost $1,000 smackers. Stick with me- I don't bet often but tend to do OK when I do.

I will give my college bowl picks in a week or so.

Wall Street Journal...

......is just about the only newspaper that is increasing its circulation. [Click on my post title above to see the story from one of my favorite blogs, Gateway Pundit]. Or click below:
http://gatewaypundit.blogspot.com/2009/10/conservative-wall-street-journal-is-now.html

I view the Journal as an excellent product and fantastic news & opinion resource. But I wish it had a local news section and local sports section, then I would cancel my subscription to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Actually, I predict News Corp will one day roll out a customized edition of the Journal which will also offer sections with the local market's sport news and local news. In fact, I'd be surprised if Rupert Murdock was not already evaluating that as a viable business model to grow the Journal's revenue!

Health Care Reform...........

........made simple perhaps.

I was thinking [yes it is painful for someone as dumb as I am] and remembered the Fed govt approved a bill earlier this year that expanded S-chip health insurance coverage for like 6 million more kids. The cost was about $1,700 per person. So I thought what if we did the same thing for the 30 million or so uninsured [of the legal variety]. At that rate, it would cost $51 Billion a year. We could pay for it by increasing the Federal income tax of every worker. It would be an increase of about $300 per year per worker!

If we have to do something, this idea of mine sounds about simple as it could be. My numbers may need to be tweaked but they probably work and the bill could be written on maybe two sheets of paper!

Mr. President and all you Congress critters, you are very welcome to use this idea of mine. Just be warned, I have a million more for you to consider!

I.D. Cards - The Time Is Right To Require When Voting

I really don't make this stuff up:

"The Galapagos Islands issues its residents mandatory identity cards that feature photos, invisible ultraviolet ink, a computer bar code and a holographic overlay." They do this TO PROTECT THEIR FING BIG TURTLES! We refuse to do the same thing even though it would help to protect ourselves and help to ensure integrity in our elections.

Time For A Commission To Investigate The Cause of Bailouts?

When will John McCain call for an independent (i.e no Congress critters allowed) commission to determine the causes and culprits for the financial meltdown? Cause the American people have their pitchforks ready and are pissed off!

The commission should also determine if there are other ticking financial timebombs (i.e the state govt pension funds).

Letter To Charities To Whom I Give Money

Dear Charity or Worthy Cause to Whom I donate:

Barack Obama, a Democrat, will raise taxes. I estimate his plans will increase my taxes by 30% or more from their current level.

This letter is to advise you that I will therefore reduce my contributions to your organization by 30%.

When and if Barack Obama becomes the next president, perhaps you can try and ask the government to contribute to your fine organization. Because they will have the 30% I once gave to you. I wish you the best of luck in that effort.

If you have questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

AIG Bailout

It looks like the taxpayers will bailout some banks and AIG for about a trillion dollars. I say give stock in these companies to every man, woman and child in the country.

Screw the government - the people are putting up the money and the people should get the stock certificates. Make sense to me. What do you think?

"Meet The Press" Being Replaced by "MEET THE TAXPAYERS"

The MSM has their collective knickers twisted. Sarah Palin has not graced them with her presence and "it's been nine days since she was announced as McCain's VP choice". That is a quote from girly-boy Chris Matthews this morning.

I recommend McCain give Palin free access to a Meet The Press type confrerence but instead of MSM types, they should randomly find informed taxpayers to ask the questions. Call it "MEET THE TAXPAYERS". And no one from the Beltway is allowed. This is a great maverick move for McCain because polls show voters don't believe nor respect the MSM anyway.

The new paradigm goes around and replaces the biased dinosaur media with real no-bullshit type regular citizens to ask questions to the candidates.

Pick The Quarterbacks With The Five-Letter Names

Nough said- these two will face off in the Super Bowl which will be a good one. I pick the team that is known for playing on the frozen tundras in an upset! Heh - figure that out.

Well - I told you who my picks were this weekend and only two of four won BUT BUT remember I said if you must bet TAKE THE OVER!

If you had taken that advice, you would have won three out of four of your bets! Not bad huh?

Just call me Emperor For Life.

Little Late But Here Are My NFL Picks

New England, Green Bay, Dallas & Indianapolis. No Upsets this weekend and since the lines are so large, I suggest you bet the "Over" if you must bet.

Sorry for making my picks so late but just saw Hube's picks at www.colossus.mu.nu and it reminded me I forgot to post mine.

And after seeing Brett Favre in the early game, I am leaning to picking Green Bay to win next week in the NFC championship- they have a very good offense and a very good defense (maybe the best defense of the remaining 4 NFC playoff teams!)

My Football Picks

San Diego, Tampa Bay & Ohio State.

I had Seattle yesterday and in the college bowl season, I had winners in Penn State, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi State, New England (over 30 points vs. NYG) and Maryland (I think Maryland was a winner).

My losers were Connecticut and Boston College and Dallas Cowboys (last game of season vs. Redskins). [Can I say Redskins in the blogosphere or is not PC anymore?]

Keep in mind, I was in Vegas over the holidays so most of these were "real" bets. It's nice to win or even break even. [Idiotor's note "Well that is a No shit statement"]

Ralph Peters ....Best Foreigh Affairs Columnist in the USA

Ralph Peters is my favorite foreign affairs columnist. He writes a regular column for the NY Post and the link provided is to a blog that points out the smart stuff in Peters' latest column where he says 2007 was a turning point in the war on terroe and in Iraq. Keep in mind, Peters has been a vocal critic of the Iraq Qar plan in recent years but is a fan of General Petraeus' surge tactics. Peters is a retired Army officer so he knows what he is talking about.

Here is a money quote from the Peters article. I think the quote depicts perfectly the "attytood" of most Dems and Libs in this country..." We should have learned the utility (value) of fighting, instead of letting liberal-elite America-haters inflict their defeatist agenda on our country and on the world".

Ice Hockey Outdoors on New Years Day

Is this a great country or what! I know it is only a hockey game but Americans love traditions because we are sentimental and a little corny and are satisfied with simple pleasures like a hockey game in the frigid outdoor cold. I hope this game becomes a great, American tradition.
Think about this ....we have not been good at introducing new traditions in recent years. Almost all of our traditions were born in the years of 1900-1960 or even before that. Wonder if that indicates our society is a bit stale? or stagnating a bit? So if you are reading this - I say go and start some new traditions - they are good for you!

Happy New Years- I will be watching on TV my first ice hockey game in many years and it is being played outdoors in front of a record crowd.
(Blogger's note- when the hell did the Penguins change their colors to Blue and white? For years, all of the Pittsburgh team colors were black and yellow..Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. This proves how long ago I paid attention to hockey).

Great Screen Saver

This is a photo I am using for my screen saver. It is my favorite photo of 2007 and I took it in Ricketts Glen State Park in northeastern Pennsylvania. The park has about 17 waterfalls and a well-marked hiking trail on which you can see each waterfall.
The hike is maybe 3-4 miles and of low/moderate difficulty.
I highly recommend for a weekend diversion in the summer.

My Bowl Picks

I diverted to Sin City for a few days to end the year and it is great - I can bet on the College Bowl games while I am here. Here are my picks :

  • Texas
  • Boston College
  • Maryland
  • Connecticut
  • Mississippi State
  • Penn State
  • Alabama
  • Illinois
  • West Virginia

Now don't go wasting your own hard-earned money on my picks. I am no expert and am only making small wagers on some of the above games. I just placed my first bet on Texas about 2 minutes before kickoff. I had to lay 2 & 1/2 points to the ASU Sun Devils.

Post Number 166 in 2007

I have had this blog for three years now and noticed I made 176 posts in both 2005 and in 2007. So 176 posts is now my goal for 2007.

This is my 166th so I have ten more to go to reach 176. I may have to take my laptop on my Vegas vacation to make 176.
